Funny Song Parodies by Funny Song Performers

Whew! It’s been a while for me. I do miss promoting and making new funny song parody videos.I am currently at work on my new website Singing Lessons In. It takes up all of my time right now.

It’s basically a site all about taking singing lessons at home or anywhere you decide to be. It really needs my attention right now because it still new. So for the next couple of months I will be working on promoting it at every turn. So this will mean a drastic drop in funny song parodies. This isn’t totally bad thing. I will still make updates periodically. I will at least try to post monthly funny stuff for you to laugh at and even sing to.

There are still several artist I am wanting to go after on my parodies. I don’t ever claim to be a “Weird Al”! He along with many other great parody writers are very prolific at their work. I do not put out anywhere as much work as they do. I honestly view my parody writing as a nice hobby of mine, but in the long run I know I will not be happy doing it alone.

This will not be the end of Nixon Lee, but it will definitely be a break for him. I leave you today with my most current Britney Spears Parody “Tranquilizer”!

Hey there! This is Nixon Lee. If you have been following me on twitter, you may have noticed a tweet about stopping all further work on the site. This would be correct. I am currently hard at work on another site of mine and have to put all work on the funny song parodies site to a stand still. I haven’t ran out of parodies but several things have come. As for my new JLo song parody. It has been put on hold indefinitely due to some technical difficulites in the production aspect. It will probably be a good month before anyone sees anything new from me or the site. When I do return I shall have several parodies to disperse.

I have been horrible about updating. See currently I have another major project I have been working on at the moment and it has been taking all of my attention. The good news is my brand JLo parody is almost ready. I expect to release it this next weekend. It will come with the standard stuff. A free download able mp3 and screensaver. This will have scenes from the new music video.

I can’t tell you exactly what JLo song I will be parodying but just know it will be a bit old school. Now I must say something right away. I have realized that my parody writing hasn’t exactly taken off. To be honest I am not totally disappointed by it. There was a time when I thought that was all I wanted to be known for. While I do love to do my parodies,there are actually other things I do enjoy more. My parody writing will never fully go away for me. It’s always gonna be a part of me. It represents the humorous side of me. I never wanna let it go. So I have all of these parodies ready to be released and I have decided to release one a month until I run out. When they do I will probably start writing again and keep them coming. That’s my thoughts on that.

I am happy to finally present to you today the hilarious Nsync Song Parody “You Can Do It on the Wii!” or alternately titled “The Wii Song”. This was originally written in March 2009 which was just last month. So its pretty new.This is making fun of the Nsync song “It’s Gonna Be Me!” Which personally I love the song. It’s very fun. The Final Day…..

So i decided to do some labeling on my tapes so they would all say my name and the album title. I felt so professional doing it. Only slip up was that my parents were home and I left all of my tapes on the bed in plain view. So I was labeling one Saturday afternoon. And my mom came into my room all of a sudden to ask me about something. I tried to cover them all up with a blanket but it was too late. She had already seen them. She was shocked to see all of the tapes on my bed. She grabbed one and started reading the titles on one of the cassette cases. She started asking questions about what the songs were about. She was mostly furious that the songs weren’t Christian based. I personally loved my work and it was fun for me. But she didn’t see it like that. She felt it was a waste of my time and I should be singing somethingesle.

So she grabbed them all and said take this to your father! So she grabbed all of my tapes and took them to my dad. Which I dreaded more than anything. He asked me to come see him and explain. I was like. Well these are just songs I sing and they make people laugh. He was not impressed. Basically I had to stop it and get rid of all of my work. Which I hated. And I felt ashamed about it since they viewed it so poorly. Since I really didn’t have any other support besides school. I gave into my parents demand. What can a guy do who is only 15 or 16 and living with his parents. You have to do what they say. Even though I personally didn’t see anything wrong with them.

So I stopped for a week or so. But it was in my blood. So I faked them out. I made a few gospel tapes and said I was giving them to people. Which I did like 2 or 3 and my parents were proud. But then I turned right around the next week and got back to work on selling my parodies. I know I must have sold at least 35 tapes. I think that’s pretty good for a guy who had to do it all himself.

So after Ia moment when all the hype went down. I stopped writing parodies mainly because it became too much. The thing I worked so hard to get acknowledged for now was becoming a major pain in my backside. It was getting to where it was hard for me to go anywhere in school with out being pressured into performing. Then I started to resent it. And just stopped all together. But a year or so later I was back it because I knew how to do it so well.

So high school ended and my college life began. I had a phase were I had went all religious and threw away a lot of my things dealing with my parody writing. Now I wish I hadn’t that stuff is a gold mind now! I know i have written probably over 50 of those things. And could have so much more to work with now. But it’s okay. I realize I am at a different phase in my parody writing now. It’s little more mature and I can address more now since I have lived life a bit.

I wrote a few parodies in college….like 3. All of which I didn’t record til last year. They all became my first videos for youtube and various other online video hotspots. I wrote Afraid 4 U( Slave 4 U Britney Spars), Sweetest Sin( Jessica Simpson), Don’t be so quick to deny you’re gay! (Justin timbelake- rock ya body).(Which You can view below!)

So life changed a bit for me during college. “I came out” and met a guy. I moved in with him and severed ties with my mom for a while. I also left school. To me school was just a place to learn and I loved learning. But didn’t really feel like I would find my love there. The thing I really wanted to do with the rest of my life. I felt a need to get out of the ordinary on everything. It sort of felt too formal and I needed to break out. I still feel like that right now to be honest.

So after about a year or so of being in a relationship I was starting to get the itch again. The itch to perform and write. So decided to return back to my trade with the 3 songs I had written previously. And to write a new one. So at that time Piece of Me by Briteny Spears was big. So I latched on! I rewrote it and and then a few months later. I decided to make a website to dedicate to my parodies and all parodies for that matter. So February 2008,I created www.funny-song-parodies.com and decided to go under a new name for my parody writing endeavors. I started looking for a new name. Finally…me and my boyfriend were eating out one night at a restaurant called “Benningings”. We were swapping ideas. And he came up with Dixon and then finally Nixon. And I added Lee since that actually part of my real name. I think it was a nice combination. It combined two parts of me together. Nixon is associated with the presidency and how people sort of laughed it off a bit and then Lee represents myself an how I bring my own perspective to my parody writing.

So performing in class in high school was a regular thing for me. It was literally not a thing for me to whip out my tape and dance around to various self written tunes. The question though was why. I was the only kid doing this kind of stuff. I think it was for a number of reasons. One mainly being I see as a way to release a lot of my own inner turmoil from the stresses of home life. I did truly love to sing and dance so it did allow me to do that. Which I couldn’t do at home. I think the naughty factor played a part as well. It was cool and fun to be doing something seen as for bidden . It didn’t represent anything I was brought up with. It was a crazy new little world. Which I created. So during this time I was listening to pop radio just about every time my parents weren’t home. That left me a lot of time actually. I would start to get very pissed when they decided to stay home all of sudden. I would feel like why the heck are they here? (Even though they owned the house and were free to do as they wished.)

Then the funny song covers album came….

“ Breathmint one more time….” I figured I would title it after my first big hit. Since it was so popular.I felt like a real artist! I printed up flyers and distributed them throughout school. I started recording almost immediately. Luckily on weekends my parents were gone. So I spent many late nights recording my material for the album. I basically took all of the stuff I had written through the year and compiled it. Along with a few newbies. I think I even recorded a remix version of the “Breathmint One More Time”. It was a lot of fun. I recorded the whole thing on an old Singalodeon karaoke machine using an old headphone which looks like it was used in the 1970s studios. I got the headphones from an old van my parents had bought a few years previous. Some how I found out that the old headphones doubled as a microphone for the karaoke machine. That was very fortunate for me. Especially since buying microphones were too expensive for my non-job having self at the time. I was still on allowances. And I had to keep my spending to a minimum on miscellaneous things. I couldn’t have my parents thinking I was doing anything suspicious. So I recording my album took many , many weekends.

All of my albums were done on tape. So to get these tapes. I bought a few and then I requested from my friends that they submit any old tapes they had. So I ended up having about roughly 35 tapes are so. I made the copies on the same karaoke machine. So since it only had 2 tape decks it took a while to get all of them recorded. And I had to flip the tapes over too so each side got the album. It was a very tedious process but I felt it was worth it. I was becoming a star in my own right. So after I recorded and made all the copies. I put them all in my backpack. And each day I took a few to school to sell. Well right when I was about to really start selling a good bunch. I made a major mistake which costed me my secret world of school.

But then came high school and the funny song covers returned….

It was a new territory and I felt the itch again. I enrolled in choir so I could sing my little heart out. Time rolled a long. And during the summer previously I had been hearing this new artist on the radio a whole bunch! I didn’t like the song initially but after many plays it sort of grew on me. So I decided since everyone knew the song I would make it my own. So I waited till my parents were gone and then I recorded the song off the radio. Then I listened to it tons of times. Till finally my new little single was ready. It was called “Breathmint One More Time”. Little did I know but it would blow up! (at school any ways)

So I decided I had to find a spot to perform this little ditty. So decided to first print it out and then circulate it around the school. Kids fell in love with the song! They would ask me to perform it again and again. Then I remember being in Spanish class and we would have a fiesta party about once a month where everyone would bring Mexican themed foods. I asked if I could perform it in class. And my teacher was like yes. She was asking me what kind of performing I would be doing. She was thinking more a long the lines of something more formal like Whintey Houston or the like. Boy! Did I surprise her. So the party came around and I had my tape ready. (I would always carry a tape in school. Just in case I had to perform on the spot.) I was always ready and wanted to perform cuz I loved it!

So performed at the Spanish class party and the girls loved it! The guys got a few laughs as well. It was the start of the big head for me as well. From that point on I acted like a little celebrity at school and start pumping out the parodies like no one business. By the year’s end I must have had about 30 of them. Everytime I would write a new one I would go to the library and print as many copies as I could. At school we had a limit of 50 print outs a week. I made sure to watch it carefully. So I wouldn’t run over. I still had to do school work like research papers and the various. While at home it was getting harder and harder to hide my secret school identity. I was starting to slip up more. I would leave my work out some times by mistake. Work being new parodies I was working on. But my parents didn’t seem to notice. Which was okay by me. I literally had that TV life where the parents were mostly off screen and I spent a lot of time alone.

Okay so after all the posts and parodies I thought it was time to really break it down. You know the why of it all and where it even came from. It really all started in the wake of 1999. Back then I was in middle school and being a kid who loved to perform I felt the need to express my humor the best way I knew how. I loved music and the really big song at the moment was My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion. This song was so heavily played that just about no one could stand it. So I decided to make fun of it.

But even though it was played on the radio a ton of times. It was hard for me to listen to it when I wanted due to the fact my house did not allow anything being played other than gospel/christian music. So I had a problem. But I worked my way around that. I took what I knew of the song and reworked it. Before I knew it I was performing for small crowds in school and at lunch. I brought a ton of attention and I didn’t know how to take but to keep performing. I loved doing it and at home I had to be so serious and quiet due to my responsibilities. So by performing at school I got to release a lot of my tensions at home. But I had always enjoyed school more than being at home. Let’ just say my home life was less than ideal and I will leave it at that.

So I rewrote “My Heart Will Go On”. I forgot now what exactly the parody included but had something to do with maybe droning. I know very ironic. If that’s the word for it. Well it was a big hit with all the girls at the time. They would always ask me to sing it to get a good laugh. I also rewrote Spice Girls song “if you wanna be my lover”; it turned into “If You Wanna be My Cheeto”. Cheetos were really popular then. I remember everyone buying them so it seemed to fit at the time. I also rewrote the song “Where Have all the Cowboys Gone” by Paula Cole. It was retitled “Where Have All the Meatballs Gone”. Which had something to do with noodles and not being enough meatballs to go around. I know very juvenile stuff. But it made me happy for a time anyways.

So at school my life was becoming very crazy. I Was getting attention around the clock, and luckily when I left school it was all like a dream. No one at home knew I was parody writing fool at school. ( yes I rhymed on purpose.)So it all finally came to a climax. When I decided upon my own will. I would have a giant concert at lunch period. I passed out flyers and got the word around the whole grade level class. I knew it was gonna be big! So finally lunch came. And I was ready to show my stuff.

So I picked a spot in the courtyard and had my friends introduce me. Then I came out and boy it was crowded! I was like whoa! It’s like I am real rock star. So I started flipping and singing. Boy! I was exhausted but I loved. So right in the middle of one of my songs I stopped because I didn’t feel the crowd was into to it. So the bell ringed for the end of lunch and all the kids scattered. Then as I was leaving I felt a big rock hit my head. Man! Did it hurt. I was sadden that someone would do something like that to me. So I went to English class and was very silent. From that point on didn’t feel like performing… so that ended that.
